The UEFA Championship League Trophy

For those who love to play the world’s most ‘beautiful game’, there is probably no better dream for many football clubs and footballers other than to get a chance to hold aloft the UEFA Championship League Cup. Other than the Football world cup, this is probably the only championship trophy other than their own domestic series which every footballer holds dear to his heart. One of the most prestigious football tournaments in the world and the most prestigious club competition in European football, the UEFA Championship League sees the winners of all European domestic cup competitions try their hands at winning the continent ultimate glory – the UEFA Championship League Trophy.

Since its inception in 1955-56, the UEFA Champions League has gone over several changes with regards to the format of its games. The current format envisages three qualifying rounds, a play-off round, a group stage and four knockout rounds. The winner of the UEFA Champions League qualifies for the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup while the third-place finishers in each group (at the group stage) enter the UEFA Europa League round of 32.

Amongst the teams, Real Madrid (Spain) is the most successful club in the competition's history winning a record 9 UEFA Championship League Trophy including five in quick succession. They are followed closely by A.C Milan who have won 7 and were runner ups four times. This year winner’s Bayern Munich comes third with 5 wins. The finals of the 59th edition of UEFA Championship League Trophy are all set to take place next year at the Estádio da Luz stadium, Lisbon, Portugal. Preparations for this gala sporting event have already begun and if you are planning to catch all the live action, we would recommend that you plan your holidays ahead and start booking a holiday apartment soon. And since the stadium is located some 8 kms away from the city center and is easily reachable by the metro, car and bus. It is better than that you rent out a serviced apartment located near the city center or in any locality accessible by the metro or bus.
